Half-day sightseeing tour of Bishkek city including: Ala-Too main square, State Historical Museum (currently closed for reconstruction but expected to open for June), open air Art Gallery, Panfilov Park, Oak Park, Erkindik Boulevard, State Museum of Fine Arts, Victory Square, walk along the Youth Alley surrounded by two major university main buildings (State National and International Universities), Grand Philharmonic Hall, Manas and Manaschy Statues and the Mayer Office. After breakfast depart to Issyk-Kul with en-route stop to visit a historical site: remains of ancient city Balasagyn (10-12th century) consisting of a minaret, an open air museum of Balbals (carved stone figures) and a small archeological museum in Tokmok town. Upon arrival to Cholpon-Ata visit open air Museum of Petroglyph’s (stone inscriptions) that contains more than 2000 petroglyphs dating from 800 BC to 1200 AD. On the rocks you can see drawings that depict hunting scenes, sacrifice, victory, war, and everyday activities. Rukh-Ordo cultural complex and Regional Museum. Lunch in a local café. DAY 3: 22/07 CHOLPON-ATA – KARAKOL (160km/3h)
After breakfast take a road through scenic road to far eastern part of Issyk-Kul Lake to Karakol town. Before reaching the town visit eco-farm Reina-Kench at Tepke village. The farm is located on the territory of the similarly-named agricultural complex, one of the main features of which is a horse farm, where they breed New Kyrgyz and Russian trotter breeds. The agricultural complex “Reina Kench” has been founded in 1996 and is the leading farm in the breeding livestock of the Issyk-Kul region. The farm occupies 2,230 hectares of land where 410 hectares are under arable land. For today, there are 270 heads of highly productive cattle, 1800 heads of sheep and 250 horses. You will have a guided tour around the farm followed with organic lunch in the open air along the Jyrgalan River. Just before reaching Karakol town visit Przewalski Museum – a Soviet renowned explorer of Central and Eastern Asia. While in city visit old wooden Dungan Mosque built without nails (Dungans are Chinese Muslim minority group originally from Western China), old wooden Russian Church and One Village-One Product local shop. DAY 4: 23/07 KARAKOL – JYRGALAN VALLEY (70km/1h)
Today you will visit one of the beautiful valleys – Jyrgalan. Enjoy the gorgeous drive to the valley along the scenic road that passes through small villages surrounded by sharply inclined peaks. You will arrive to Jyrgalan village with about 1100 inhabitants. The peculiarity of the area is that it is located at an altitude of 2300 meters among the mountain ranges of Teskey Ala-Too, far from industrial dens and routes…that are harmful to flora and fauna. You will enjoy the breathtaking pure air, Crystal River Jyrgalan that flows from the peaks and several old Soviet buildings still standing there today including an old coal warehouse and weighing station and get to the small village named Karabakh. You will be met by locals who will greet you and by having an excursion around the village. After lunch you will go for half-day hiking tour to Turnaluu-Kol Lake and enjoy the stunning view. It is possible to go there on a horseback. The specialty of this place from the east Karkara valley, Kegen and in the west whole eastern part of Issyk-Kul cavity can be seen at the same time. The itinerary runs by ridge, which divides the cavity into two parts. When going up you will see flood plain of the Tyuip River and Chymyndy-Sai Gorge, the territory is inhabited with shepherds of Tyuip region. Turnaly-Kol Lake (translated as Cranes Lake) is unique lake located at the altitude of 2600 meters; the lake is surrounded by superb Tian-Shan fir-trees, beautiful and colorful flowers. Starting from May till July cranes from the Persian Gulf stay at the lakeside for summer. Cranes stay at the lake until fall comes and bring out nestlings, probably, climate of the area is favorable to make birds stay there till fall, because summer days are not hot and nights are not cold. It happens because of hot streams of Issyk-Kul Lake. Further, continue climbing down and move to the south towards Jyrgalan village. DAY 5: 24/07 JYRGALAN – SON-KOL LAKE (385km/7-8h)
Today is an early start. When passing by visit a popular tourist destination with red colored gorges at Jeti-Ogyz (Seven Bulls) Gorge where you see the shapes of seven bulls and broken heart. After arrival to Bokonbaev village (south shore) visit a local Kyrgyz Burkutchu’s (hunter) house who keeps falcons at his house (small falcon farm). The host can tell the story of falconry and its historical meaning to Kyrgyz people. Tamed and trained bird (falcon, hawk, and eagle) is a unique property of the hunter, like his horse or hound (Taigan). From generation to generation hereditary hunters inherited the secrets of theirs skill, and the age-old tradition of growing and training hawks. This majestic and formidable bird is able to beat in a tough fight, even a fox or a wolf. This type of hunting is the most common form of recreation for the nomadic people of Kyrgyzstan, and today it is a part of its national culture. When the hunter takes his eagle out to hunt, he wears a heavy leather glove and will leave the hood over the bird’s eyes until he spots an animal running across a meadow. When he removes the hood, the eagle quickly hones in on the prey, springboards of his master’s arm and attacks. The eagle will then swiftly break the neck of its prey, which can be anything from a rabbit to a fox to a young wolf. Trained to wait for its master, the eagle won’t begin eating until the hunter is at his side. Lunch at a local Kyrgyz family’s house. Then continue driving to beautiful alpine lake Son-Kol (3016m). The road to the lake has stunning views of Tien-Shan Mountains, green pastures where you can see herding horses and sheep, small mountains rivers and definitely local nomads with their yurts. DAY 6: 25/07 SON-KOL LAKE
Full-day for observing and experiencing nomadic lifestyle, interacting with shepherds and their families, watch them run household duties like milking mares, making Kymyz, taking part in preparing food, taking care of livestock etc. You will walk to nearby place where will be festival of traditional Kyrgyz horse games such as Ulak-Tartysh, Kyz Kuumai, Tyiyn enmei, Er enish which will follow with folklore show and kyrgyz cuisine. DAY 7: 26/07 SON –KOL LAKE -CHON-KEMIN VALLEY (250km/4-4.5h)
After breakfast depart to Chon Kemin valley. On the way stop at Kochkor village to visit Altyn-Kol (Golden Hands) local shop for famous Kyrgyz felt carpets and other felt products. Observe as well as participate in making felt carpet with locals and lunch in a local family. You will arrive to Jyrgalan village with about 1100 inhabitants. The peculiarity of the area is that it is located at an altitude of 2300 meters among the mountain ranges of Teskey Ala-Too, far from industrial dens and routes…that are harmful to flora and fauna. You will enjoy the breathtaking pure air, Crystal River Jyrgalan that flows from the peaks and several old Soviet buildings still standing there today including an old coal warehouse and weighing station and get to the small village named Karabakh. You will be met by locals who will greet you and by having an excursion around the village. After lunch you will go for half-day hiking tour to Turnaluu-Kol Lake and enjoy the stunning view. It is possible to go there on a horseback. The specialty of this place from the east Karkara valley, Kegen and in the west whole eastern part of Issyk-Kul cavity can be seen at the same time. The itinerary runs by ridge, which divides the cavity into two parts. When going up you will see flood plain of the Tyuip River and Chymyndy-Sai Gorge, the territory is inhabited with shepherds of Tyuip region. Turnaly-Kol Lake (translated as Cranes Lake) is unique lake located at the altitude of 2600 meters; the lake is surrounded by superb Tian-Shan fir-trees, beautiful and colorful flowers. Starting from May till July cranes from the Persian Gulf stay at the lakeside for summer. Cranes stay at the lake until fall comes and bring out nestlings, probably, climate of the area is favorable to make birds stay there till fall, because summer days are not hot and nights are not cold. It happens because of hot streams of Issyk-Kul Lake. Further, continue climbing down and move to the south towards Jyrgalan village. On the way back you will see the western chain of mountain peaks of Eki Chat gorge. Dinner and overnight at family run guest house.

DAY 5: 24/07 JYRGALAN – SON-KOL LAKE (385km/7-8h)
Today is an early start. When passing by visit a popular tourist destination with red colored gorges at Jeti-Ogyz (Seven Bulls) Gorge where you see the shapes of seven bulls and broken heart. After arrival to Bokonbaev village (south shore) visit a local Kyrgyz Burkutchu’s (hunter) house who keeps falcons at his house (small falcon farm). The host can tell the story of falconry and its historical meaning to Kyrgyz people. Tamed and trained bird (falcon, hawk, and eagle) is a unique property of the hunter, like his horse or hound (Taigan). From generation to generation hereditary hunters inherited the secrets of theirs skill, and the age-old tradition of growing and training hawks. This majestic and formidable bird is able to beat in a tough fight, even a fox or a wolf. This type of hunting is the most common form of recreation for the nomadic people of Kyrgyzstan, and today it is a part of its national culture. When the hunter takes his eagle out to hunt, he wears a heavy leather glove and will leave the hood over the bird’s eyes until he spots an animal running across a meadow. When he removes the hood, the eagle quickly hones in on the prey, springboards of his master’s arm and attacks. The eagle will then swiftly break the neck of its prey, which can be anything from a rabbit to a fox to a young wolf. Trained to wait for its master, the eagle won’t begin eating until the hunter is at his side. Lunch at a local Kyrgyz family’s house. Then continue driving to beautiful alpine lake Son-Kol (3016m). The road to the lake has stunning views of Tien-Shan Mountains, green pastures where you can see herding horses and sheep, small mountains rivers and definitely local nomads with their yurts. You can stop and visit nomads where you will be offered bread and national drink Kymyz (fermented mare’s milk) as a mean of their hospitality. Accommodation at yurt camp, dinner and overnight.

DAY 6: 25/07 SON-KOL LAKE
Full-day for observing and experiencing nomadic lifestyle, interacting with shepherds and their families, watch them run household duties like milking mares, making Kymyz, taking part in preparing food, taking care of livestock etc. You will walk to nearby place where will be festival of traditional Kyrgyz horse games such as Ulak-Tartysh, Kyz Kuumai, Tyiyn enmei, Er enish which will follow with folklore show and kyrgyz cuisine. Dinner and accommodation in a camp.

DAY 7: 26/07 SON-KOL LAKE – CHON-KEMIN VALLEY (250km/4-4.5h)
After breakfast depart to Chon Kemin valley. On the way stop at Kochkor village to visit Altyn-Kol (Golden Hands) local shop for famous Kyrgyz felt carpets and other felt products. Observe as well as participate in making felt carpet with locals and lunch in a local family. Arrival to guest house dinner in the yard of the guest house followed with bonfire and Akyn singing folk songs on komuz and accordion.

DAY 8: 27/07 CHON-KEMIN VALLEY –BISHKEK (135km/2.5h)
Breakfast. Half-day excursion tour to Kalmak Ashuu Gorge (on horses and/or horse carts). Picnic there or lunch at the guest house. Arrive back to guest house and depart to Bishkek. Upon arrival, check-in to hotel. Evening free time.

Transfer to the airport for departure flight.
